MONDAY, JUNE 26TH, 2017 DAY 4


GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO THE FINAL WEEK,

This first block begins with Francais.  The next period is physical education (out of doors).  We will discuss the activities for this period with Mr. Minn’s classroom as soon as we meet in the field.  I expect that you will participate in some capacity.

The middle block begins with the Mathematics Exam.  You have this entire block to complete the exam.  I will be asking you to separate your desks.  If completed before the alloted time, you may work on something else – ie your word search from last week’s spelling or the word search provided.

The final block of the day begins with the Restaurant Studies television commercials.  I will be recording these to play back later.  If time allows, we will discuss the luncheon to be held this Wednesday.  We will list who will bring what food item.

THURSDAY, JUNE 22ND, 2017 DAY 2


Your first block begins with Music (Mr. Crone).  There will be a battle of the sexes by creating a cool riff (boys vs girls) using various instruments available to you.  Upon our return, we will be involved in a Physical Education activity out-of-doors (to be announced at beginning of period).

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  Our next two groups present their math review lesson in preparation for Monday’s exam.

The final block begins with Language Arts Grammar.  You will find last Tuesday’s homophones/homographs assignment to work on – due tomorrow!!!! The final period of the day will be Restaurant Studies.  Hopefully, we will finish up the menu/floor plan presentations.  You must also consider the script for your live television commercial to advertise your restaurant.  The final activity will be the planning of your luncheon menu for next Wednesday.  You must discuss with your partner what you will bring in and create a poster menu of the actual foods you will bring in.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21ST, 2017 DAY 1


WELCOME TO THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER   192 HOURS UNTIL YOUR HOLIDAYS!!!

The first block will be spent entirely in the gymnasium for the talent show.  I expect that you will show appropriate appreciation for the brave souls who will perform before a large audience.

The middle block begins with Mathematics – student-led lessons.  The first presenters are group that teaches order of operations/integers.  The next group will be teaching/reviewing theoretical and experimental probability.  If time allows, you may work on your restaurant studies.

The final block begins with Restaurant Studies.  We have several menu and floor plan presentations.  The final period is Reader’s Theatre.  You have this final period to prepare for tomorrow’s presentations.  You may bring props to create background sound effects if you wish to do so.

TUESDAY, JUNE 20TH, 2017 DAY 5


This first block begins with Francais.  The second period begins with groupings and planning for this afternoon’s book buddy out of doors activities.  We then move on to Language Arts Writing – specifically homonyms and homographs.  I will use the internet to demonstrate the big idea regarding confusion with homographs such as their, there, and they’re.  Your first practice task is due Thursday.

The next block begins with book buddies – an out-of-door event as per your activity stations.  If the weather does not co-operate, we will begins with the next two Mathematics review lessons as per your team planning.  This should take the entire block to complete.

The final block of the day begins with Restaurant Studies.  I will be asking for presentations of the menu and floor plan.  I will also explain the 30 second to 60 second radio commercial (or live television) to advertise your restaurant.  The final period of the day is the introduction to reader’s theatre.  I have downloaded several scripts and will be choosing groups of 5 or 6 (some of these are longer than others).  You have this period and two more to practice for Friday’s presentation.

MONDAY, JUNE 19TH, 2017 DAY 4


This first block begins with Francais.  We then move on to Language Arts.  During this period, I will be asking for groups to present their menus for the Restaurant Studies project.  The other option is for groups to present their floor plan and explain the logic behind the chosen design.  Questions will be answered at the end of each presentation.  (or we will be going out of doors for Physical Education if the weather cooperates – Frisbee golf or a similar cooperative game involving the use of frisbees)

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  We will be viewing two presentations today as per expectations (student-led lessons) as a review in preparation for next week’s mathematics exit exam.  Make sure that you have all of your materials organized and ready to go!!!!

The final block of the day begins with Restaurant Studies (if the weather did cooperate and we did go out of doors for Physical Education!!!!).  If not, you will continue working on your Restaurant Studies.  I will also discuss the advertising commercial for your grand opening (expectations and objectives).  This will be a dramatic exercise that will be performed live – script required.

FRIDAY, JUNE 16TH, 2017 DAY 3


GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO TGIF,

This first block begins with Francais.  The next period will be dedicated to Language Arts Writing.  You will find your limericks for presentation.  You may choose your favourite from the three that you have written.  I have also booked the ipads for those who need to complete their Two Islands television commercial.

The middle block begins with the presentation of your Two Islands television commercials.  I have signed out all of the ipads so you must find the correct ipad and access your commercial from the memory.  If time allows, you may work on your restaurant studies – floor plan or menu.  You will also be asked to present your Limerick and submit it for evaluation.

The final block begins with Mathematics.  This is your final prep period for your team lesson.  Make sure that you have all resources ready to go for Monday.  You may practice your lesson with your team members.  A practice task is required (brief to be done in class).  The final period is restaurant studies.   You may continue to work on either the menu or the floor plan.  Presentations begin today for those who have completed at least one of the two items and next week – either Monday or Wednesday.

THURSDAY, JUNE 15TH, 2017 DAY 2


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Music.  Upon your return, we will be going out-of-doors (for Physical Education if weather permits as gym is booked).  We will be practicing fribee skills (throw and catch + accuracy) in preparation for next week’s frisbee-golf.  We may be playing the “steal the football” game but with frisbees.  If the weather does not cooperate, you will work on your Language Arts poetry task – creating your two limericks.  I am hoping for presentations later this period or tomorrow!!!

The middle block begins with viewing the kindergarten presentation in the gymnasium.  The remainder of the block is Mathematics.  We will be viewing two presentations today as per expectations (student-led lessons) as a review in preparation for next week’s mathematics exit exam.  Make sure that you have all of your materials organized and ready to go!!!! (Taylor and team go to Mr. Starr’s classroom to present your lesson + explain how you designed the lesson)

The final block begins with Language Arts Grammar – we need to explore homographs such as their vs there vs they’re and its vs it’s.  I will be using a web site or two to explore the different context requiring the right format of spelling.  Your practice task is due Monday.  The final period of the day is restaurant studies.  Outstanding lists of things to do must be completed for presentation.  Grand Opening posters need to be posted (containing name, logo, catch phrase, date of opening, times, specials, address,….).  Our next presentations will take place next Monday – either the menu or the floor plan.  Those teams ready to present their menus or floor plans may do so now.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14TH, 2017 DAY 1


This first block begins with French.  This is followed by Language Arts Grammar.  Today, we will be exploring homographs (ie there vs their vs they’re).  We will view a few web sites and possibly a powerpoint so that we can get an idea as to which to use under which context.  Your practice task is due tomorrow!!!!!

The next block begins with Mathematics.  You will meet with your assigned teaching partners in preparation for the lesson that you will present on Friday.  You will be expected to stay on task.  I will remind all groups of the expectations and criteria.  You must have a brief practice task ready to go.  The next period is Language Arts Media Literacy.  You and your “Two Islands” television commercial partner have this time to integrate your photos and videos into the green screen app.  I expect that the commercials will be ready for viewing by Friday.

The final block of the day begins with restaurant studies.  I am hoping that groups are working on their menus.  We should have completed the “list of things to do” presentations.  The final period is Geography.  You must have the completed assignment ready for marking.  We then read about and discuss “The Five Themes of Geography”.  I will be playing a video to help solidify the concepts with real life examples.

TUESDAY, JUNE 13TH, 2017 DAY 5


This first block begins with French.  The next period is Language Arts Writing.  You will find last Thursday’s “The Grave” poem for review.  I will present the answers to the questions that you found challenging.  The next big idea in poetry is “Limericks”.  I will be using an internet site and a video to help you understand the process and idea development for writing a limerick.  I will then hand out the information package containing a template.  You are expected to write three (3) limericks for tomorrow.

The next block begins with Mathematics.  I will be assigning a variety of grade 7 mathematics concepts to groups (of 4) to help your prepare for the mathematics exam.  You will be designing a lesson to help your peers review the material this year.  Each group may use a piece of technology for research purposes and/or to design their lesson. After groups have been established, you will receive your major concept to develop and teach.  You may create a short practice task.  I expect lessons to begin this Friday.

Exchange 2nd block for third block as the second block is entirely taken up by the final recordings of the Two Islands Green Screen television commercial.  If time allows, I will show the video on how to apply the Green Screen application on the i-pad.

MONDAY, JUNE 12TH, 2017 DAY 4


This first block begins with French followed by Physical Education.  We will be going out-of-doors to play a cooperative game (?frisbee-golf) but you will need to follow instructions very carefully./  ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE AS THIS IS NOT AN INTENSIVE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY!!!!!!!!

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  You will first find last Thursday’s division of decimals task for checking and corrections on anchor charts (I will be choosing guest students for this).  I will review the concepts/key terminology for word problems so that you can set up the important numbers correctly (mathematical operation).   Today’s task involves multiplication or division of decimals by a whole number.  This is due tomorrow for evaluation.  The remainder of this block is set aside for you to work on your television commercial for the Two Islands.  (WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY = RECORDING GREEN SCREEN)

The final block begins with Geography.  You will access last Wednesday’s geography task for checking and corrections (exchange and mark it).  We will then look at the Five Themes of Geography.  We will read the text and discuss the concepts mentioned.  The final period is open for you to work on your restaurant studies.  I expect the Grand Opening poster to be completed by mid-week and begin work on your menu.
