GOOD MORNING STUDENTS,
This first block begins with Language Arts Writing. This week’s focus is spelling and today’s lesson we will explore prefixes. I will post a website that will help to explain the prefix combinations and their meanings. You will then receive a practice task with a spelling list. You must complete this task by tomorrow. (NOTE: THERE WILL BE SPELLINg TESTS COMING VERY SOON). The next period is Media Literacy. You must first submit last week’s “Children watching Television” task for assessment. We will then move on to the next area of exploration – marketing to teens. We will check out the strategies used by advertisers to get teens and preteens to buy their products. We will consult a Powerpoint and video to get started. I will ask you beforehand what you think those strategies are.
The middle block begins with Dramatic Arts as presented by MME. We then move on to Mathematics. You must access last Friday’s volume of a rectangular prism and cube for checking and corrections. We will now discuss how to find the surface area of a rectangular prism and cube. I will use anchor charts + website to present the process and procedures. You will need a calculator for this. Your practice task is due tomorrow.
The final block of the day begins with Science. We will begin our review for tomorrow’s test on What is Electricity, The Atom, and Static Electricity. I will have you find all your notes and place them on your desk. We will then check out a few websites and videos to help us review. The final period of the day is Geography. We will continue with our study of longitude and latitude lines via a text package and response task – this is due Thursday.

The first block begins with Language Arts Writing. Any outstanding presentations must be completed at this time. We then move on to the next grammar/spelling big idea: prefixes. We will view a website and a Powerpoint presentation regarding the meaning of prefixes and application in common words. Your first practice task (Lesson 7 p. 13-14) will be handed out for you to begin the work. This task is due Tuesday for checking and review.
The middle block begins with Mathematics. We will check and correct yesterday’s Volume of a Rectangular Prism task. Your next practice task is due Tuesday for marking. We have the Chrome Books for the final period of this block, so we will begin our third and final Bullying Research/Presentation task via Google Slides: How to Deal with a Bully (Physical, Verbal, and Cyber). I will review the expectations and success criteria beforehand so that you have a good idea of what to do and what to look for. You may use a Chrome Book to begin your research and take notes (NO COPY/PASTE ALLOWED EXCEPT FOR GRAPHICS – YOU MUST EXPLAIN IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!!)

The first block of the day begins with Francais. We then move on to Language Arts Media Literacy. We will review “Children Watching Television” based on the notes we read and discussed on Tuesday. We will watch one brief video on the topic. The response task based on the reading and discussions is due next Tuesday!!!!
The middle block begins with Mathematics. Today’s big idea is calculating the volume of a 3- dimensional container such as a rectangular prism or cube. I will referring to anchor charts, a website, and a Powerpoint presentation to review the process. You will need a calculator for the practice task. I will be checking your work tomorrow and I will also be choosing volunteers to present their solutions on the anchor charts. The remainder of this block is reserved for Visual Arts. We will begin the first art lesson on the design/drawing of geometric solids as per the instructional video. You will receive a large 17 by 11 sheet to sketch these shapes as per the instructions. THIS TASK WILL BE ASSESSED AS PER THE SUCCESS CRITERIA DISCUSSED BEFOREHAND.
The final block of the day begins with Geography. You will access yesterday’s 5 Themes of Geography response task for checking and corrections. I will introduce the first lesson exploring latitude and longitude on a map/globe. You will need to take notes as we will visit a Powerpoint presentation containing the information required. The final period of the day is Science. Today’s big idea is Static Electricity. We will read a short text and view a video + conduct a few demonstrations to visualize the application.
This first block begins with Francais. We then move on to Mathematics – the Geometric Solids quiz. You will not have access to your notes for this test. You must review all areas of this test after you have completed it. You must complete this test in pencil only as anything else WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!!!!
The middle block will take place in the gymnasium for the Valentine’s Day dance. I will be reviewing behavioural expectations. We will also discuss possible consequences for breaking rules.
The final block begins with Geography. Today’s big idea is latitude and longitude. We will continue with the presentation from yesterday and there may be notes to take. You will receive an information sheet for reading and discussion. There will be a response task due tomorrow.
This first block begins with Francais as programmed by MME. The next period is Language Arts Media Literacy. We will be exploring the effects of watching television on children. I will ask you what you think of this topic and any ideas you may have. We will then read and discuss an article about Children watching Television. I will also refer to a website or video to further explore this major concept.
The middle block of the day begins with Mathematics. You will find yesterday’s Geometric Solids task for checking and corrections (exchange for marking). Our next big idea is calculating the volume of a Geometric Solid. We will view a website for this as it is not a terribly difficult concept. You will need a calculator for this task and it is due tomorrow. If time allows, we will then move on to Visual Arts. We will be learning how to draw geometric solids and you will be doing so on a large 11 by 17 plain white sheet. You will need to separate your sheet into 6 equal parts as you will be drawing six different Geometric Solids. We will be watching an instructional video and it will likely need another period to complete this task.
The final block of the day begins with Science. We will review yesterday’s lesson on the Atom. Our next big idea is closely related – Static Electricity. I will be conducting a demonstration or two first and ask you what you have observed and to try to explain your observations. We then move on to the text for reading and discussion. Your response task is due tomorrow. For the final period, we move on to Geography. You will find yesterday’s notes on latitude and longitude for review. Your first practice task begins in class and is due tomorrow for evaluation.
This first block begins with Language Arts reading. For those of you who have not already done so, you will be reading your alternate ending to “The Monkey’s Paw” . After you have read your story, you must submit the entire package (including rough copy and success criteria rubric) for evaluation. Our next period is Health. There are still a few outstanding presentations (Why do bullies bully?) to be viewed and discussed.

Today’s lesson begins with a review of the properties of cubes and rectangular prisms in preparation for exploring the volume and surface area of such solids. I will refer to anchor charts, the internet (Math is Fun), and a Youtube video.
The final block of the day begins with Geography. We will now focus on latitude and longitude (global positioning) via Powerpoint presentation. You will need to take some notes. We will define and apply these terms. The final period of the day is Science. We will begin by checking and reviewing p. 28-29 What is Electricity response task. We then begin our exploration of The atom and its parts. We begin with a review of the concepts taught last week. We then move on to Static Electricity. I will perform a few short demonstrations using various materials re. this concept. We will then view a video on this topic. Next is the text package that I will distribute for us to read and discuss. The first response task (p. 32) is due tomorrow for checking and review.

This first block begins with Language Arts Writing. We will continue to listen to presentations of the alternate ending to The Monkey’s Paw. You must submit your package including rough copy and editing checklist for evaluation purposes (please find and attach success criteria rubric given earlier) We will then move on to your CASI response task based on the short text we read and reviewed yesterday. You have this time and additional time after Mathematics to complete the CASI response. We will first discuss expectations and response strategies that you really should apply.
The middle block begins with Mathematics. You must access yesterday’s Characteristics of Geometric Solids task for checking and review. We will then view the construction template for various geometric solids. Your task is to try and figure out which geometric solid it represents once built (will use internet site and images for this). We then move on to Visual Arts – The topic is the 3-D drawing via Geometric Solids. I will be showing a video that will give you a step-by-step account of how to draw 6 different Geometric Solids . I will be collecting this task once it is done (for evaluation). I will discuss the success criteria beforehand.
The final block of the day begins with Physical Education as led by Cole (warm-up and activity) You are expected to demonstrate appropriate listening skills and act upon instructions exactly as given. Students who cannot do this will be pulled from the activity for “Thinking and Reflection” time. The final period is Francais with MME.

If completed, I will be introducing the next CASI text. We will be reading this short story together. I expect that you will pay close attention to this lesson and focus on the meaning of the text.
Your next block begins with Mathematics. You will find yesterday’s composite figures task for submission and evaluation. Today’s big idea is geometric solids. I will ask you what you already know about them and how/where they are found in real life. I will refer to a website or two as well as a Powerpoint Presentation. You will be receiving a reference sheet along with a practice task to identify and explain the characteristics of certain geometric solids. If time allows, we will continue with our exploration of How to Deal with a Bully. We will likely review yesterday’s discussion as well as view a few websites that could be helpful in this area.
The final block begins with Geography. We will finalize our lessons on the 5 Themes of Geography by reviewing what we have learned so far. We will check and correct yesterday’s response task. The next information text will be read and discussed together. The final period of the day is Science. We will continue to explore the atom (parts and how they are related to elements such as Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen,….). We may watch a video about atoms that better demonstrates its behaviours and applications.

The middle block begins with Mathematics. Today’s lesson will re-focus on composite shapes (perimeter and area). You absolutely require your ruler, pencil, and calculator. I will conduct a lesson including anchor chart exemplar + website outlining the procedures. There will be an additional component to the problems given involving calculations of costs based on perimeter and area of a given composite shape. If time allows, the final period of the day will be Health. We will finish up any outstanding presentations. If we are all caught up with the presentations, we will now move on to”How to Deal with a Bully”? I will be leading a discussion based on your own experiences.
The final block of the day begins with Science. You will find yesterday’s notes and information about the atom. We will continue to discuss the atom via video and possibly a Prezzi presentation. The final period of the day is Geography. We will continue to explore the 5 Themes of Geography via video and I will deliver a handout for us to read and discuss. The response task based on the information given is due tomorrow.

The first block of the day begins with Francais as led by MME. The next period is Language Arts Grammar. You will find yesterday’s homophones task for checking and corrections. We will quickly review the homophones as we correct the assigned task and discuss the application of specific homophones. You will now receive an in class task that will be collected by the end of this period for evaluation.
The middle block begins with Mathematics. You will need to access yesterday’s perimeter and area task for checking and corrections. I will be checking to see if you understand how to apply the formulae that we explored. Your next task is due tomorrow for marking. The next period of this block is Health. If we need to complete the “Why do bullies bully and why do Bystanders stand by?” presentations, we will do so now. If they have been all completed, we will now move on to our next topic – HOW TO DEAL WITH A BULLY (physical, verbal, cyber, ..) We will first need to review the definitions of these types of bullying via website, discussion, and possible video.
The final block of the day begins with Science. We will now begin our first formal lesson about Electricity by reading and discussing a text entitled “What is Electricity?”. We may view a brief video as well to support the text. You have one response task to complete for tomorrow. The final period of the day is Geography. We will recall all 5 themes of Geography. You will receive a handout containing information on all five themes and we will read and discuss this information. The first response task is due tomorrow.
