GOOD MORNING STUDENTS,
This first block begins with Francais as hosted by MME. We then move on to Language Arts Writing. This is the final period to work on your narrative. You should be working on your neat copy and your work should have been edited by at least two peers. I also expect a neat copy of your title page to be completed as you will be presenting your narrative (fiction story) to your classmates tomorrow.
The next block begins with Mathematics. We will continue on from yesterdays’s exploration of problem solving strategies using the 4-square method. You will be finishing up your group Geometry problems to solve using the 4-Square problem solving tool. I will then choose from the playing cards the group that will come forward to the front of the classroom to present their solution via the problem solving strategy. The remainder of the period is Language Arts Grammar. We will discuss the recognition and application of adverbs in a complex sentence. I will refer to a web site or two to practice this skill. Your practice task is due Friday for checking and corrections.

You must have this completed by Wednesday for presentations!!!!!!! I will be collecting the neat copies after presentations for evaluation as per the success criteria rubric.
The middle block begins with Mathematics. Today, we will be discussing the 4-square problem solving system. We will visit a few web sites to check out the process for this system and then perhaps a video to see it in action. You will be placed into groups and receive a problem-solving tool and a specific mathematics problem to solve and then present by applying this system. We will spend a few days perfecting this problem solving model as it will be quite useful throughout the year – particularly during EQAO.
The final block of the day begins with History. You have access to the Chrome Books and we must complete all of the Google Slides/Google docs and move on to preparing your display board. The presentations begin either tomorrow or Wednesday. We will determine who presents tomorrow. The final period of the day begins with Physical Education. We will continue with fitness station activities.

This first block begins with Mathematics – I will first explain the instructions for the Geometry Test no. 1. You may use a ruler and calculator for this test. YOU MUST NOT SUBMIT THIS TEST UNTIL THE END OF THE BLOCK!!!!! I strongly suggest that you review every one of your solutions after you have completed your test. If time remains, you may work on the Mars word search and/or your narrative (finish rough draft + editing) and your title page.
The middle block begins with Dramatic Arts. We then proceed to Health; We will continue our discussion re. Healthy and Unhealthy foods followed by the short text “Nutritional Favourites”. There is a response to complete which is due by Monday. We will likely view a video about healthy food choices.
The final block of the day begins with Language Arts Grammar. You will find the first task for Adverbs. We will review the concept of Adverbs (identify and use in sentences) via internet site and video. Your next practice task is due Monday. The final period of the day is History. We do not have access to the Chrome Books but you have to work on your poster board. If not enough students have the required materials, we will instead finish up with the Music lesson (notes and rests) including note and rest values.
This first block begins with Science. We will be exploring the next planet in our solar system – Mars. I will ask you what you already know about this planet. We will be viewing a few web sites and a video for more information to discuss. We will then read the text provided. The response task is due tomorrow. The next period is Music. We will continue with musical notation by first reviewing the note and rest values as well as time signature. We will continue taking notes as per the Powerpoint we viewed on Wednesday.
The next block begins with Mathematics. You will find yesterday’s Geometry task for checking and corrections. We will be conducting a review for tomorrow’s Geometry test. I will be using web sites, a Youtube video, and likely a Powerpoint presentation to review all concepts (lines, types of triangles, polygons,……) in preparation for the test. The final period of this block is Health. We will be reading a text about Nutritional Favourites. We will discuss those foods that are healthy and those that are not. Your response task is due Monday.
The final block of the day begins with Physical Education. YOU ARE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN TODAY’S LESSON. We will be conducting fitness station activities. These will be timed and there will be music in the background to help you maintain your pace. Upon your return to class, you will meet with MME for Francais.
The first period for this block is Francais. We then proceed to Health – We will first find the Vitamins/Minerals task for exchange and corrections + the True/False task from last week. The next big idea is “Nutritional Favourites” regarding foods that are “good” and “bad” for you. We will be reading a text and viewing a video.
The middle block begins with Mathematics. We will first check and correct yesterday’s triangles task. We will then discuss regular and irregular quadrilaterals via the internet and Powerpoint. Your practice task is due tomorrow. (NOTE: TEST THIS FRIDAY!!!!). The final period of this block is Language Arts Writing – You have this period to design your title page for your Narrative (rough draft first). The neat copy must contain the title of your story + at least one graphic that represents a scene in your story. Colour is required. I will discuss the success criteria prior to your working on the draft.
The final block of the day begins with History. You have about 40 minutes to work on your project. Presentations begin next Monday. The final period of the day is Language Arts writing. We then go to the library to participate in the coding lesson as presented by the librarian. YOU ARE EXPECTED TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR BEST LISTENING SKILLS AND TO ASK RELEVANT AND APPROPRIATE QUESTIONS.

You will continue to work on your rough copy of your narrative. You should now have the first two paragraphs in place and working to develop the story (plot) towards the climax of the story.

Today’s lesson involves types of angles as well as basic geometric shapes and strategies to identify them. We will visit a web site and perhaps a Powerpoint presentation to view images and discuss their characteristics. Your next task is due tomorrow. You will have classroom time to work on it. The next period is Music. We will first review last week’s definitions task. We will now focus on musical notation (quarter notes, half notes, rests,…..) and I will be using a Powerpoint amongst other visual help. YOU WILL BE TAKING NOTES FOR THIS PERIOD!!!!
The final block of the day begins with Health: You will access the “Nutrition and your Body” true or false task for exchange and marking. Our next short story will be “Nutritional Favourites” that we will read and discuss. You will be highlighting key points. The final period is reserved for you to work on your History Project – The project must be completed by this Friday…..presentations begin next Monday. We will review the success criteria rubric.

We will review the Plot line and its parts in preparation for an upcoming assignment involving reading a text and responding via the plot line.
The final block of the day begins with History – you have access to the Chromebooks for one period so that you can complete the Google Slides for your topic. YOU MUST NOW BEGIN THE CONSTRUCTION OF YOUR DISPLAY BOARD. You will need to bring it to school so that you and your partner can work on it. I will review the expectations for the display board. We will look to next week for the presentations of your New France project. The final period of the day is Physical Education (in the gymnasium)

This first block begins with Mathematics. We will now move on to the next big idea for Geometry – understanding the basic concepts of geometry (line, angle, polygon,……We will mostly focus on intersecting, parallel, and line segments. I will be showing your examples of each and we will then view a video. You will next receive pages 5 to 8 containing exemplars of the above concepts + a multiple choice task to test your knowledge – due Monday. The final period of the day is left for you to work on your Language Arts Narrative. I expect the rough draft to be done by Tuesday of next week – ready for editing!!!!!!

No more time will be given. The next period is Science. We will first check and correct the text response for the short story about Mercury. Our next planet to explore is Venus. I will ask you what you already know about this planet. We will then view a web site or two as well as a short video. We then move on to the text to read and discuss. The response task is due Monday.

Your goal today is to complete the rough copy of your introduction (intro your protagonist + setting). Please double space in pencil. The final period of this block is Grammar. We now begin our study of Adverbs – What are they? How to identify?….. We will consult a Powerpoint to get a better idea about identifying and applying adverbs in sentences. Your first practice task is due tomorrow.
The final block of the day begins with Physical Education (In the gymnasium). You are expected to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We will be engaged in movement activities including running. The final period of the day is Francais with MME.

Once you have completed the quiz, you will be working on your Narrative – specifically developing the setting. You may also begin thinking about your introduction (How to grab the reader’s attention)
The middle block begins with Mathematics. You will access yesterday’s “Plotting coordinate points on a grid” task 1 for checking and corrections. We will continue to explore this concept via video and a web site or two. This next task is an in class assessment to check your comprehension. The remainder of this block is Health. You will find yesterday’s vitamins and minerals story for exchange and corrections. We will now read and discuss the next text on Nutrition – nutrition and your body followed by the true/false task that is due by the end of the period. If completed early, you will work on the nutrition word search.
The final block of the day begins with Music – we will continue to take notes on the Elements of Music followed by a definitions task (Making Music) that will be due next Monday. Your final period of the day is History…you have the Chrome Books to work on your project with your partner. Do not forget to create the assessment tool to apply to your peers after your presentation.
