TUESDAY, JUNE 19TH, 2018 DAY 5


GOOD MORNING,

Your first period begins with Language Arts Reading.  You will find your Prometheus response task for review.  Our next myth involves the early years of Hercules.  I will ask you what you already know about this character.  We will then read this myth and discuss the ideas presented.  We may get the chance to watch a brief video about his early years.  You will  have a response task to complete.  The next period is set aside for you to work on your Restaurant Studies/Travel Agency project.  We do have the Chromebooks this period.

‘The middle block begins with Mathematics.  We will check and review the division of whole numbers by base 10 task as well as a few of the long division problems.  Today’s big idea for review is the measurement of the area of two and three-dimensional shapes by applying the correct formula.  This will be reviewed via a website as well as an anchor chart or two.  Your practice task will conclude the period.

The final period of the day is Physical Education that I will program and lead.  We will play a cooperative game after a warm-up activity.  I will give detailed instructions so you must listen carefully.  The final period of the day is Francais as programmed by MME Fleming.

MONDAY, JUNE 18TH, 2018 DAY 4


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Francais as programmed by MME. Fleming.  The next period is Language Arts Writing.  You will have access to the Chromebooks to complete the neat copy of your Creation Myth.  You must also design a story cover.  You will be reading your creation myth tomorrow.  Those that have completed this task will work on the alternative task provided.

The middle block begins with Mathematics – specifically division and multiplication by base 10 numbers as well as long division.   We will check out an anchor chart or two as well as a Powerpoint presentation.  Your practice task is due tomorrow!!!!.  The remainder of this block will be set aside for you to work on your Restaurant/Travel Agency project.

The final block of the day will continue with the Restaurant/Travel Agency project (1 period).  The final period is Language Arts Reading – we will read a myth about how Prometheus gave fire to Man.  If time allows, we will view a brief video about Prometheus.  Your fill-in-the-blank task is due tomorrow

THURSDAY, JUNE 14TH, 2018 DAY 2


GOOD MORNING,

After Francais, we launch into Language Arts Writing.  You must finish your creation myth draft as you will work on the neat copy tomorrow.  You will also have the opportunity to create your story cover with a title that you give to your Creation Myth as well as a byline.

The middle block begins with D.A.R.E. as hosted by officer Mortimer.  If Officer Mortimer cannot make it, we will indulge ourselves in Mathematics.  We will be reviewing division skills including division of whole numbers by whole numbers and whole numbers by base 10 numbers.  I will be referring to an anchor chart as well as a Powerpoint presentation and Video.  Your practice task may be completed with a partner (one other person…..not two or more).  The next period is reserved for the completion of the dance presentations if possible.  If not, I will show you the video on needlepoint.

The final block of the day begins with Restaurant/Travel Agency project.  We have access to the Chromebooks and we will check out the structure of a few menus on line.  The final period of the day will be Mathematics as described above (if Officer Mortimer arrives).

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13TH, 2018 DAY 1


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Language Arts Reading.  You will access your “Great Gods” crossword puzzle and images task.  I will begin by revealing the identity of each image.   We will then review the answers to the crossword puzzle.  Our next myth deals with Creation – how the ancient Greeks and Romans explained how the world and the universe came to be.  We will read the story together and discuss the ideas presented.  Your response task is to fill in the blanks with the correct answers from the story.  The next period is given to you to work on your project – we will first hear from those teams that did not get a chance to present their posters. (We need to take down the art from the wall and post our posters on the back wall!!!!)

The middle block begins with Dramatic Arts as hosted by MME. Fleming.  We then move on to Mathematics.  I will call upon a few volunteers to come up and present their solutions to yesterday’s multiplications problems.  The next big idea is all about long division.  I will use a few anchor charts to go through the step-by-step process of solving a four or five digit number by a two digit number.  Your practice task will be due tomorrow for review.

The final block of the day begins with Language Arts Writing.  I will be giving you instructions on the expectations and guidelines for writing your own creation myth.  You may use any of the Gods that we previously discussed.  You have to create an outline (idea web or jot notes).  We may have the laptops for you to conduct research.  The final period is reserved for you to create your title page for this myth.

TUESDAY, JUNE 12TH, 2018 DAY 5


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Language Arts Reading.  You will access yesterday’s The Great Gods crossword puzzle and fill-in-the-blanks task for exchange and assessment.  We will continue to conduct a reading test based on this Myth.  You will then receive a CASI reading response for this Myth.  It is due Thursday for evaluation.  The second period is Restaurant/Travel Agency project.  You may have access to the Chromebooks.  I will be calling upon each group to present their two posters tomorrow (including grand opening advertisement poster).

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  Today’s big idea is long division of whole numbers.  We will focus upon a few problems on anchor charts to review the process.  We may first warm up with math facts skills (multiplication and division) via a speed test.  Your practice task is due tomorrow and I will be calling upon some of you to come forward and present your work.

The final block of the day begins with Physical Education- we will go out-of-doors to play a co-operative game to be decided upon later today (weather permitting).  The final period of the day is Francais as hosted by MME. Fleming.

MONDAY, JUNE 11TH, 2018 DAY 4


GOOD MORNING,

Today’s first block begins with Francais.  We then move on to Language Arts Reading.  You will receive the  “The Great Gods” story for reading and discussion.  We will conduct a reading test today via playing cards.  You will then beging to work on the fill-in-the-blanks task as well as the crossword puzzle.  Both are due tomorrow for assessment.

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  We will continue our review with equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions.  You may use your calculator.  We will conduct a review via anchor charts and a Powerpoint presentation or two.  Your practice task is due tomorrow.  The remainder of this block is reserved for Restaurant/Travel Agency project.

The final block of the day will see us out-of-doors for the “Jump Rope for Heart” event.

FRIDAY, JUNE 8TH, 2018 DAY 3


GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO TGIF,

We begins this first block with French as hosted by MME.  We then move on to Language Arts Reading.  We will review the “What is a Myth?” response task.  We then move on to a story about the Gods in Greek and Roman Mythology.  We will read about their names and functions and how they were worshipped by the people.  I will likely conduct a reading test on Monday.  You will also have to complete the fill-in-the-blank task and the crossword puzzle.

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  We will continue with the math review.  Today’s theme is the multiplication of larger numbers.  We begin with a multiplication and division speed test.  We then move on to the procedures for solving the multiplication of three by three digit numbers.  We will view and analyze problems on the anchor charts provided.  Your practice task is due Monday.

The final block of the day is devoted to dance.  We will first clear the classroom floor of the desks to create a dance area.  I will review the success criteria for evaluation.  You may use the sound system in the classroom to play your song.  The final period of the day is set aside so you may work on your Restaurant/Travel Agency project.

THURSDAY, JUNE 7TH, 2018 DAY 2


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Francais as hosted by MME. Fleming.  The next period is Language Arts reading.  We begin a new session on Mythology.  I will begin by asking you what you already know about Mythology – purpose, structure,….  Our first story is entitled “What is a Myth” .   We will read and discuss the ideas presented.  You must then complete the “Fill-in-the-blanks” task which is due tomorrow.

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  We begin this new session with a review of numbers, particularly place value and expanded form.  I will refer to an anchor chart or two and a Powerpoint presentation.  You have a practice task to check for understanding. (In preparation for end-of-the-year diagnostic test!!!!  The remainder of this block is reserved for you and your partner to work on your special project.

The final block of the day begins with your choreographed dance practice – you present tomorrow!!!  You should have your music and a speaker system.  We will be going out-of-doors for this period.  The final period of the day begins with corrections of some of the Science test (exchanged).  We then move on to DARE.  You can use this period to begin the rough copy of your essay as requested by Officer Mortimer.  It is due next Thursday!!

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6TH, 2018 DAY 1


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Language Arts writing.   You must have complete the neat copy of your cinquain + cover page.  This is due for marking by the end of this period.  Make sure that it is well edited + published (your writing and in pen).  The cover page must reflect the topic.  You will be presenting your cinquain to your peers. The next period is Restaurant studies/Travel Agency.   If you are working on the Travel Agency project, you may use the available Chromebooks to conduct research for your country of choice.  Please note that you will need to copy/save photos for your travel brochure.

The middle block begins with Dramatic Arts as hosted by MME. Fleming.  The next period is Mathematics.  You will receive a probability task (probability tree) for evaluation purposes.  You have this entire period to complete this assessment.  YOU MUST SUBMIT THE ASSESSMENT BY THE END OF THIS PERIOD!!!.

The final block begins with Science.  You have a test today on Flight – your final test for Science.  You may bring in your 1 page (single sided) notes.   The remainder of the block is available for you and your partners to practice your choreographed dance (weather permitting).

TUESDAY, JUNE 5TH, 2018 DAY 5


GOOD MORNING,

This first block begins with Science.  I will conduct a brief review of Flight concepts and discuss the structure of the test.  You have this period to create your study notes (1 page single sided) and check out parts of an airplane + their functions via Chromebooks.  The next period is Language Arts Writing.  You will continue to work on the neat copy of your “Flight Topic” cinquain which includes editing and publishing as well as a visual graphic that represents the main idea of your creation.

The middle block begins with Mathematics.  We will be working on the practice Probability task received yesterday and I will ask for volunteers to come forward to show their solutions .  We will then try another combination probability task using three separate events.  We will watch a video + practice a probability task involving the possibility of a certain combination of events using fractions to express it. The practice task will be due tomorrow for evaluation.  You will have the entire block to make sure that you do the best you can with the assignment.  It is in your best interest to carefully lay out the probability tree for easy viewing.  Any time remaining can be held for you to work on your Restaurant/Travel Agency project.

The final block of the day begins with Physical Education in the gym – practice your choreographed dance.  The final period is Francais.
